Eurofighter Typhoon Canopy
The Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) is held biennially in July at Farnborough Airport in Hampshire. The airshow is an important event in the international aerospace and defence industry calendar, providing an opportunity to demonstrate civilian and military aircraft to potential investors and also to the public.
Since the first airshow in 1948, Farnborough has been at the heart of numerous aerospace achievements, crating a legacy of awe-inspiring moments that have shaped both British and international skies.
The show is also used as a platform to announce high-profile industry developments, which attracts media coverage from 47 countries. FIA is the second-largest show of its kind in the world, attracting over 100,000 visitors during the week long event.
Our client - a specialist exhibition stand contractor working for BAE Systems, was contracted to design and build an exhibition stand for Eurofighter at Farnborough. In turn, our client called upon J & J Carter's expertise to design and manufacture the tensile fabric canopy element.
The canopy is attached to the steel arches with our proprietary double Keder track extrusion and tensioned using catenary boundaries which provide an attractive scalloped detail. The structure was also designed to be easily relocated. This meant our canopy continued to tour with the Eurofighter Typhoon as it visited many prestigious aviation events, including the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), Aero India, Dubai Airshow and many more.
