J & J Carter were contracted to design and build a tensile fabric canopy to cover the outdoor sales area. The canopy had to interface with an existing building, which could not resist the canopy loads.
The central column was installed through the hub at the apex of the pavilion and the hub had to be weather sealed using a flexible detail to allow for column movement. The type of membrane that was specified, with a metallic finish, required new tooling to be designed to ensure perfect welding.
The structure provides good coverage for the space and is a prominent and striking focal point for the forecourt.
