Last summer, the picturesque Cullivoe Pier on the Island of Yell was selected as an official Cruise-in-Company port for the visiting Tall Ships, sparking the creation of the Sail Yell Festival. This vibrant event centred around the pier, showcased a dynamic blend of maritime heritage and local culture.
The Sail Yell Festival spanned three days, transforming Cullivoe Pier into a bustling hub of activity. The festival featured an impressive lineup of Shetland's renowned bands and artists, with music as the cornerstone of the celebrations. The pier was adorned with 16 majestic Tall Ships and numerous visiting yachts, creating a spectacular maritime display.
To support such a grand event, the North Yell Development Council commissioned J & J Carter, known for their expertise in marquee manufacturing. The chosen structure for the festival was the robust Hampshire Structures Series 90. Measuring 9 meters in span and 33 meters in length, this marquee stood as the central feature of the event. It was crafted from high-quality Verseidag DURASKIN 650gsm material and featured numerous clear walls. These design choices were intentional to maximise the breathtaking views of the pier and to amplify the festive atmosphere.
