Education – Playground Shelters for Schools

Creating an environment that is not only safe but also a fun and engaging place for students to learn in should be a top priority of institutions at all levels of education. However, perhaps this is most important for nurseries and primary schools, who are responsible for educating children when they’re most impressionable. A vital part of their learning involves play and exploration of outdoor spaces. This is where J & J Carter’s playground shelters for schools come into their own. These tensile structures can be elegantly engineered into a variety of shapes and sizes and produced in an array of colours that capture students’ imagination. They also act as a shade canopy, protecting children from the sun and high temperatures. Healthcare – Ambulance Canopies

In an emergency, it’s essential that ambulances, their crews and patients are kept safe from the elements upon arrival to hospitals. There also needs to be plenty of space to fit multiple vehicles at once to minimise confusion and make it as easy as possible for patients to receive medical attention. This was one of the main aims of King’s Mill Hospital, who contacted J & J Carter about the manufacture and installation of an ambulance canopy outside the hospital’s entrance. They also required the tensile structure to be built with the environment in mind, similar to their cooling system that cut the hospital’s carbon footprint by 400 tonnes a year. We delivered an ambulance canopy fabricated from circular, hollow mild steel – a spectacular design that doesn’t block natural light from the hospital.

Transport – Bus Shelter Canopies

J & J Carter have also undertaken extensive work in the transport sector, including many tensile structure projects with bus stations, airports and even a railway museum. Each structure we build always uses high quality and durable materials which last in excess of 30 years. They also have the added benefit of being striking to look at! For instance, take a look at the bus shelter canopy we created for buses and passengers alike at Cork Bus Station. Standing at 8.5m high and made from fibreglass, it provides the perfect balance of practicality and beauty.
